About
About EUexpat
EUexpat is a country-comparison guide that helps people from outside the EU decide which European country to move to, by scoring eight countries on the same seven factors and showing the reasoning behind every score.
Who it helps
We write for movers from the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Brazil, South Africa and other non-EU countries. Most readers are skilled professionals, remote workers, retirees or investors weighing Portugal, Spain, Italy, Greece, the Netherlands, France, Germany and Ireland.
Editorial approach
We start from facts: tax rules, visa income thresholds, residence periods for citizenship and published safety rankings. We then give each country an editorial score from 1 to 5 per factor. The scores are judgements, so we show them in full with a one-line reason each, and you can weight them yourself in the country chooser.
We say where Portugal falls short as clearly as where it leads. If a country wins for a type of mover, the guide says so.
How facts are checked and dated
We prefer official sources, such as government tax, immigration and nationality pages, and list every source on the page that uses it. Each page shows the date it was last reviewed. When rules change, we update the facts and the scores together and change the review date.
Commercial relationships
Some pages link to specialist services we have a commercial relationship with. We only link where we think the service genuinely helps.
Disclaimer
EUexpat publishes general information, not legal or tax advice. Rules change and personal circumstances differ, so check your situation with a qualified adviser before you act.
